Yep, giant flying moths. They ferry people to and from the tops of the mountains. Yaaaay moths. Anyway this took close to 14 hours to complete. Yeesh! The moth and some of the snow was done with oC4 while the rest (bg, figure, some of the snow) was photoshop.

Two rival Melliferian queens. Unlike real bees and like real politicians, they often have to meet and be civil with each other while they negotiate between their hives. Or at least maintain a thin veneer of civility so that when they return they aren't killed by their own people in favor of raising a new queen who might be better at the game. I don't yet know the name of the one on the left, but the one on the right is Amber Rust.

This is Stone. The Melliferian cecropia silkmoth seen before but never properly introduced. He's a long distance surveillance flier for the Amber Rust hive, he goes on flights of days or weeks when needed to collect information. He habitually wears the collar of his trainer, who died before his training was complete. That's her number/name on there.

Queen Amber Rust. She's a young Queen of an old established hive. She's a kind, soft spoken lady, but she also has a terrible, cold kind of intelligence. Some people are good because they could not conceive of doing something cruel. Amber Rust is good because she feels benevolence is the best policy 99% of the time. It's the remaining 1% of the time that blindsides people.

This is 041465 of the Blood Gold Hive - or just Zero. She is her Queen's most trusted servant and acts as a kind of second in command and proxy. She frequently makes decisions for the Queen in her absence. She was part of the group that left with a young Queen that had lost the fight for that hive's throne, so Zero is actually the Queen's sister. Members of the royal party in Melliferian hives are discouraged from having other important jobs, since they need to be available at any time for the Queen. Without useful things to do with the majority of their time, they nurture their eccentricities. Zero has a thing for spoons and collects them.

Rhino Beetle and Moth by DesertCoyote

A drawing I did recently of a somewhat anthro rhino beetle and a sphinx moth. This was inspired by the fact that I found a dead rhino beetle recently- they are pretty amazing-looking. I wanted to see how "human" I could make them while still retaining that insect look. As for moths, I just like to draw them anytime I can!
